Frequently Asked Questions?
How to measure your stump?
When measuring a stump make sure to measure from the root flare.

Can the Stump Grinder get in my fenced in backyard?
Our grinder can fit through a standard 36″ residential gate opening.
Why should I remove the stump?
The remaining tree stump poses a risk to surrounding healthy trees because decaying wood often becomes a breeding ground for harmful fungi, bacteria, and insects. As the stump breaks down, these pathogens can spread through root systems and soil, potentially infecting nearby trees and compromising their health. Removing the stump eliminates this source of disease, reduces the risk of infestation, and helps protect the long-term health and stability of the surrounding landscape.
🌱 Improve Your Yard’s Appearance
A leftover stump can look out of place and unfinished. Removing it gives your yard a cleaner, smoother look and makes landscaping or lawn care much easier.
🚶♀️ Reduce Safety Hazards
Stumps can be a tripping hazard—especially for kids, guests, or anyone mowing the lawn. Wet weather, snow, or grass growth can make them hard to see and even more dangerous.
🐜 Prevent Pests and Decay
Old stumps attract insects like termites, ants, beetles, and rodents. As the wood rots, these pests can spread to healthy trees—or even your home.
Where or What we don’t grind?
For safety and to prevent damage, we do not perform stump grinding in the following areas:
*Directly over or near underground utilities (gas, electric, water, sewer, cable, irrigation)
*Adjacent to or over septic systems or drain fields
*Within close proximity to building foundations, retaining walls, or concrete structures
*Near fences, decks, patios, or underground sprinkler heads
*In areas with shallow bedrock or where access is unsafe for equipment
*** Any Stumps taller than 5 Feet
What happens to the stump grindings after?
The grinding process turns the stump into small wood chips, which can be left to fill the hole where the stump was or used as mulch around your garden. We can also remove the wood grindings and dispose of them appropriately for an additional cost.
How deep can you grind a stump?
Standard Stump Grinding Depth
Our standard stump grinding service removes stumps to a depth of 5 – 6 inches below existing ground level. This depth is generally sufficient to inhibit regrowth and to support the restoration of turf or other surface vegetation.
Extended Depth Options
When project requirements call for deeper removal—such as for tree replanting, landscape renovations, or construction preparation—additional stump grinding can be performed upon request.
Can stump grinding be done in wet weather?
Stump grinding can be performed in most weather conditions, including light rain and snow. However, extremely wet conditions may hinder the machinery’s effectiveness and safety. In such cases, we might schedule the service for a drier day to ensure optimal results, safety, and yard preservation.
